Success Story of the Hydroponic Garden at DHPS Since February 2022, we have been working together with Eden Greenfields at Deutsche Höhere Privatschule Windhoek (DHPS) to operate an innovative hydroponic system. This system enables DHPS to grow fresh vegetables and herbs, which are directly used in the school cafeteria. Students benefit daily from the fresh, self-grown produce.
It is great to see how actively the students are involved in maintaining and caring for the system. This not only promotes their environmental awareness but also strengthens the principle of sustainability within the school community. The garden is thriving and regularly supplies the school with fresh produce.
We are proud of the success of this project and look forward to sharing more updates on our mission for sustainability and food security in Namibia.

The system has now been in operation for a year. The responsibility for its maintenance and usage rests with the participants within the school community.
In February 2023, we were able to observe the ongoing utilization of the system firsthand. We extend our heartfelt thanks to the cafeteria staff for the delicious tasting experience.
February 2022
Climate change threatens everyone worldwide, but it affects the poorest the most severely. We must begin to provide assistance where the root of the problems lies. Self-help initiatives are more urgent than ever.
With this in mind, we met Charles in Namibia. Through his company, “Eden Greenfields,” he is dedicated to transforming the food system in Namibia by implementing sustainable and innovative solutions. His mission is to end hunger, contribute to food security, promote nutrition, and limit negative environmental impacts.
Charles quickly became enthusiastic about our plan to establish a school garden with a hydroponic system at DHPS. However, the project garnered significant interest beyond just Charles. Interest rapidly grew among a wider audience, leading to the formation of working groups, the provision of tailored and practical training sessions, and much more.
Thanks to the sustainable and water-efficient cultivation methods, cafeteria and dormitory staff now have the opportunity to grow fresh vegetables and herbs as needed. More importantly, the initiative has sparked interest and commitment among all stakeholders—students, parents, and school staff alike—toward promoting food security and strengthening community through education.
